Sierra Designs Tepona Wind Jacket

The Sierra Designs Tepona Wind Jacket is exactly the garment I want to have in my bag or car for a variety of outings. Available in women’s and men’s sizes, this ultra lightweight jacket comes in handy on breezy, drizzly days.

Ultra Light, Ultra Packable

It’s made out of “100% Nylon 15D Ripstop C0 PFC-Free DWR.” In other words, it’s light, durable, and water-resistant. It also folds into its zippered chest pocket, making it easy to stash into a bag or to keep in your glove box for the times you get caught in some weather.

I use the Sierra Designs Tepona Wind Jacket as a basic windbreaker in moderate weather. It’s both my “in case” jacket and my “I don’t want to wear my giant rain jacket” jacket. I tested a men’s size L because I’m 6′ tall (often the men’s styles are cut longer than the women’s styles) and about 45 pounds heavier than usual (cut me some slack; I broke my leg). I found a good fit, and if I could do it again, I’d order an XL so I could have a baggy fit.

I live near a large lake, and I like to walk at night, so the Tepona Jacket has been effective at providing enough protection that the breeze off the lake doesn’t chill me. I like having an ultralight jacket that I can grab and go. I also find myself wearing it when I head out for walks (in temps of 50-70 degrees F) when the sky looks like some drizzle could come my way while I’m out.

All-Purpose Windbreaker

I have tested other wind jackets in the past that provided stunning levels of wind protection, even in the windiest conditions on the Columbia River in WA. I don’t feel like the Tepona Jacket is on that same level. However, I like it because it’s handy having an all-purpose light layer. I like the elastic wrist bands that keep the weather out and the extra length on the back of the jacket. Also, I get very warm when I walk, so I don’t want bulk or warm as much as I want a layer to cut the chill. The Tepona Jacket has been ideal for those types of outings.

One wish: zippered side pockets. I realize it would add weight and that the jacket is designed as a protective layer, but I can’t function without pockets. I need to carry keys, ID, an inhaler. I also need a place to stash little treasures I find on my adventures.

Available in men’s sizes S-2XL, colors Bering Blue and Grey. Available in women’s sizes XS-XL in Ice Blue and Grey.

Bottom Line: An ultra lightweight all-purpose jacket for breezy weather and drizzly days. An ideal travel jacket for its versatility and packability.
