Mountain Hardwear Tuja Trench : For City Gals

Finally, some serious winter weather. I've been loving the cold streak here in Seattle, even the nights when it dipped into the 20's. When else am I going to get a chance to wear my Tuja Trench by Mountain Hardwear?

I've always been a fan of MH's soft shell jackets, but I've been waiting for a longer coat for city wear. The Tuja Trench is just the ticket. With a form-flattering cut, tapered sleeves, and a soft fluffy collar, nobody knows I'm wearing an "outdoor" jacket. I like that.

MH keep the style pretty clean with a hidden zipper underneath the front flap of the jacket. There's a slight curve in the fabric that runs from neck to hem, and the requisite side pockets with zips. I like that the jacket doesn't have any logos, except for a few snaps (at sleeves, collar, and waist) bearing imprints of the MH icon. It's a sporty trench that's equally at home at mountain resorts or city streets.

My favorite feature - the super soft fleecy lining. The first time I wore this trench it was just under 40 degrees F, and all I had on underneath was a tee shirt. I was plenty warm, though, thanks to the full-length, full-sleeve lining. It's been much colder this past week, so I've added a light-weight wool sweater as a mid layer.

I love how the color stands up when fully zipped, providing excellent wind protection and soft, fleecy neck coverage. I also appreciate the hidden chest pocket for my iPod or cell phone - it's accessible from inside or outside of the jacket, with the requisite ear bug port. Another inside pocket is an ideal stash for my wallet.

Available in women's sizes XS-XL, colors brown or black. I think this jacket runs big. I'm always a size L in women's coats, but found a size M to fit best.

Bottom Line: An attractive, weather-resistant trench for outdoor gals to have a city life, too.--E.D. (Dec 09)
