Mountain Hardwear Pumeri Cardigan : Fireside Comfort

This sweater had defined my winter.

From the moment I pulled it on, I felt warm and snuggly--exactly how I longed to feel as winter started to grip Colorado. The knit is thick and plush, and it feels as soothing as a hug when I slip it on. This sweater is the wardrobe equivalent of a cup of hot cocoa, which is why I've worn it virtually every day since I got it. This is the "winter of the Pumeri Cardigan."

Lots of sweaters are cozy. But what makes the Pumeri my favorite is its lack of bulk. It never makes me feel over-bundled, like little Randy in "A Christmas Story." Instead, the Pumeri is plush enough to feel toasty, but thin enough to give me full range of motion in my arms.

The Pumeri is made out of blend of 60% merino wool and 40% Primaloft®Yarn (a microfiber polyester). The sweater is extraordinarily soft. In fact, I couldn't believe it contained wool at all. It has an almost chenille-like softness. After a few months of constant wear, I'm noticing some pilling under the arms, from friction--but only there. The rest of the sweater still looks new.

The ribbed material is flattering, and I love the sleeve design. The top of the sleeve is a little longer than the bottom, so it covers the back of my hand and keeps it warm. Nice touch. I also like the snap collar. I rarely button it closed because it looks great unzipped, but the heat-trapping design proved its worth one icy night as I waited for the bus: I simply zipped it up, snapped the collar in place, and instantly felt warmer.

The Pumeri is just the right length, too--long enough to keep drafts from chilling my lower back, but short enough to feel trim and tidy. Did I mention I love this sweater? Just love it.

Available in sizes XS-XL (and in three colors-Titanium, Cinnaberry, Winter White.) MH also makes wool/poly blend sweaters for men.

Bottom Line: Zipped for warmth or unzipped for casual style, the Pumeri Cardigan is as cozy as it is attractive.--K.B. ( Jan. 10)
