Incipio Utility Nylon Messenger Bag
Whether I'm traveling, or just shuttling back and forth across town for meetings, I want to keep my gear organized and protected. Incipio's hip Utility Nylon Messenger Bag is just what I need.
With its checkered nylon material, the Utility Nylon Messenger Bag has an urban-meets-spy gear appeal. The chunky shoulder strap; sturdy nylon handle; thick, black zipper pulls; and black rubbery logo panel on the front of the bag also give it a techy look that's not geeky but stylish. I can see a variety of people--from urban professionals to skateboarders--using this versatile bag.
I really like this bag because it's padded on all sides, it has lots of useful organizer pockets (with weather-resistant zippers that also have zipper garages that help keep the zipper pulls out of my way until I need them), and it carries a lot. I've even used it for overnights, where all I need is a small toiletries bag, a change of socks and underwear, and a clean shirt.
Incipio's Utility Nylon Messenger Bag has a TSA-friendly padded laptop compartment on the back that zips open so I can lay the bag flat on the airport security conveyor belt (and not have to remove my laptop). Inside the compartment there's a built-in padded sleeve with a Velcro-like enclosure. So, I can access or stow my laptop from this compartment without opening the bag, or the old fashioned way, from inside the bag. The other side of the compartment has a mesh pouch, which I can access and unzip from the inside of the bag. The pouch has some depth, so I can toss in my iPad in its padded sleeve, too. (Click for photo of bag with laptop sleeve open.)
The padded laptop sleeve will hold up to a 15" computer. Because I'm paranoid about bumping into things, and to take up extra space, I stow my 13" Macbook Pro into a rigid sleeve, then place it in the padded sleeve for a perfect fit. The bag has two vertical padded pockets on each end of the bag that are ideal for my power strip and my power cord. Both pockets have a Velcro-like seal at the top so my stuff stays put! Even better, both pockets can be accessed from the outside of the pack via zippered entry. Cool. I also use one of these pockets for my iPod; both sides of the bag have earphone ports.
The Utility Nylon Messenger Bag's main compartment has two flat zippered pouches (perfect for all those little pieces of paper and receipts I collect throughoutt the day), as well as flat sleeves for pens, business cards, and other small items. On the front of the bag (under the flap), there are two more zippered pockets. Finally, on the front of the flap, there are two zippered pockets that have super soft fleecy lining; I use these for my camera and cell phone.
The flap attaches to the front of the bag with wide Velcro-like strips, and there are also two snap-closure buckles that I can use (and cinch tighter) when I'm in transit. I like that the shoulder strap is made out of lightweight, wide nylon, with a removable padded piece. I can place the padding exactly where I need it when I wear the bag messenger-style across my body. I also appreciate the neoprene padding on the underside of the handle; when I have to grab the bag and go, it's a bit softer than the typical nylon handle.
Incipio's Utility Nylon Messenger Bag is available in Black, Gunmetal, Royal Blue, Red.
Bottom Line: Lots of organization and storage options, TSA-friendly laptop compartment, and a hip, urban look. I think this bag will have many fans.—E.D. (Nov 2011)
