Detours Transit Box : Recycled Cycle Satchel

2011 has been the year of the bag for me. I've discovered day packs that keep me organized, computer bags that keep my MacBook Pro comfortable, and now, a lovely bike bag--the Transit Bag by Detours--that's as stylish as it is handy.

My bag's full name is Transit Box Juicy WV. The "Juicy WV" refers to the woven juice box panels on each side of the bag. I like the fact that my bag contains some recycled materials. The orange and red mosaic, as well as the woven texture, makes my bag unique and provides a nice contrast with the black nylon used on the ends and bottom of the bag.

At a foot long, five inches wide, and eight inches high, my Transit Box holds just what I need it to for an afternoon cycling outing. It's also easy to pack because the zippered top has an internal wire frame that helps the bag open up very wide. I can stash a T-shirt, a pair of shorts, and a sports bra in it and peddle off to yoga class--and still have room inside for a water bottle and my wallet.

The bag has a small clip for my keys so I can stay organized, as well as a flat zippered pocket for my cell phone and a lip balm. What more do I need? Well, an easy-to-grasp zipper pull, a water-resistant zipper, and some reflective piping along the bottom, and on one end, of the bag.

For days I'm riding to a destination and then running errands, I use the removable shoulder strap to sling the Transit Box over my shoulder. Detours thoughtfully includes a water-resistant cover for the bag that I use in drizzly weather to keep moisture and dirt from soiling the recycled panels.

Oh, I almost forgot. Using the bag's a cinch. There are four Velcro-like attachment straps that attach easily to my bike rack. It literally takes about five seconds to do!

This bag is availble in several styles, including a bag with full-box mosaic panels.

Bottom Line: How refreshing! A fun, colorful bag that carries everything I need and is very easy to use. This would be a great gift for your favorite cyclist.—E.D. (July ‘11)
