Altec Lansing Portable Speakers : The Life of the Party

I never leave for vacation without my iPod; I can't endure even a short flight or train ride without my music. However, once I arrive at my destination, I want to be done with headphones. I want to share my music.

With my Altec Lansing inMotion portable iPod speakers, I can fill my hotel room with my favorite tunes....and provide the music for impromptu parties when visiting friends. For someone who grew up in the boom box era, I'm happy to find a more attractive, totally portable, lightweight (only 15 oz.) audio system.

When not in use, the speakers fold flat into the size of a paperback book. I just slip the system into its soft pouch, and carry it in my laptop bag. I like that I have the option of running the speakers on batteries (it will run for 24 hours on four AA batteries) or via AC outlet.

Now....about the's great. For a portable device, I was impressed by the clarity and bass (Altec Lansing has designed these speakers to produce a deep bass without a sub woofer). The speakers may be small in size, but these little guys go to 11. They have no trouble filling a large room with sound. With a remote control (that I always keep in my pocket), I stay in charge of the music and the volume!!

My favorite feature: my iPod charges while it plays. So I can party all night and still have the juice I need for the flight home.

Bottom LIne: These versatile, easy-to-use speakers really rock. They also come with an extra jack, so I can plug in other devices and/or a my PowerBook. Another bonus: extra adapters for use in other countries.--E.D. (July '05)
